Train Sketch: Magnus

I drew a bunch of X-men on the train the other day, and then made the mistake of starting to color them. So, here's the only one I got through. I prefer my Magneto in groovy 60's attire, as he was meant to be.

In more exciting news, I am starting a new project that will be more interesting to look at, and should be appearing in the next month. Speaking of which, I should go work on it!

Castles and Cooks/ Look at this Dog

Many months ago, my friend Jesse asked me to do some banners for his website. Castles and Cooks is a blog that fuses geek and gourmet culture. Basically, if you'd like to eat a dragon, this is the site for you. So, here they are, along with the initial sketches:
The characters are the proprietors of the blog, as their culinary alter-egos. I tried to theme them pretty strongly by color, so they'd look distinctly different at a small size. In the course of painting, I kept the thumbnails handy as reference so I wouldn't stray too far from the intended mood for each banner. It probably would have been better in the interest of time to tighten up the thumbnails, but painting is so fun that I usually dive right in. This project was a bit of a style departure for me, and I'm not a text person, so this was a pretty interesting challenge. Oh, and Jesse hasn't actually seen them done, so they may change a bit.

Finally, these are tremendously late because like the day after I agreed to draw them, I got this fluffy dog.
Look at that face! But, to the cooks, sorry for the delay!

Back in Action / Train doodles

Sorry for holiday hiatus, I will stuff your eyeballs with new art to make up for it. Starting with some character sketches in ballpoint pen! Most of these are from riding the train last week, so that explains some of the bumpiness. Drawing in ballpoint is awesome because there's no turning back when you make a mistake. I don't have a scanner anymore, so these are straight from the iPod. I may do a color-up on some of these, but just highlights for now.

These are some character ideas for a project I'm working on in my very spare, spare time.
More importantly, I'm working on a commission project that will be up here soon as well! Go art!

Let's keep it rolling / Superheroes

Nothing more classic than superheroes... except good old black and white. Here I give you both! These are some characters based on a super-powers game my friend Andy created. Several more characters sprung from it, but they were less cool. This is slightly old, but no one's ever seen it, so let's pretend it's not!

Welcome to Johnotron / Three funny guys

Johnotron is launched!

You will find more pictures than words here, so let's get right into it. I realize I've used like 30 words already in saying that, but I'm sure you've skipped ahead to the picture, as you rightly should.

This is not necessarily 'new' work but it's the newest thing I've got, so deal with it! I had a vision of this picture at work one day and did not rest until I made it a reality. These are three of the most interesting people I know, and they look exactly like this, zero exaggeration.

Enjoy!
