I'm not in the habit of posting works-in-progress, but I'm excited about this one and Robin Hood is totally awesome. This is a piece I actually started a long time ago as a rough paint, but didn't quite have a vision of where to take it. Then, last week I had the epiphany that he needed a pink feather and that got the juices flowing. This is actually a very tall picture, so there's more to see yet.

Some Bros, round 2
Another ridiculous portrait! These are two cool guys I know who are both titans of 3-D art. I was planning to make this one more grotesque, like last time, but the abiding bro-love these two dudes share shone through, and it turned out pretty friendly and nice. Yes, Kyle has huge hands. Also, I am obsessed with deep red tones. Enjoy!

15 Birds
If you're not familiar with the film, this is an homage to a scene from the 1977 Rankin/Bass 'Hobbit' cartoon/musical. My brothers and I wore out our 'Hobbit' videotape in the 90's, so perhaps that explains why it sprung to mind. I started this a couple months ago (then it spent some time in art limbo) but tonight I decided enough was enough.
I originally planned to do this in just blue and orange, but some other colors crept in there and apparently made it to the end. In retrospect, I wish I'd pushed the shapes of the goblins a little further, but the show must go on! And yet, I can't promise this will be my last Hobbit cartoon tribute.

Old Hat
As I said last time, I've been doing a big project that will soon be finished. In the meantime, in order to assuage my blog-neglect guilt, here's some more stuff from the vault! This sketch is from a while ago, but I'm still very fond of this creepy, simian hatter. Not sure where that came from. I'd really like to work this into something more, though I do worry that could ruin the old-tyme style. Anyway, I'm posting it so I don't forget about it again!

Blast from the Past
So this is several years old... I hope that I don't do this too often, but I have like 3 things in progress, and hopefully this will help fill in the gaps until one of them is done.
Once upon a time I was in an awesome drawing club. Each week there was a word that everyone had to draw. Like many awesome things, the club dissolved into nothingness when too many people joined and didn't do their drawings. I'm clearly still very bitter. This was my entry for 'Never.' This is very off-style for me, sort of a fake-watercolor, but it seemed appropriate.

Boggis, Bunce, Bean
Had a free moment before coffee this morning, so here's a quick re-imagining of the three farmers. I am a diehard Roald Dahl fan, his characterizations are so simple yet memorable. I read this book (Fantastic Mr. Fox) when I was maybe 8, and still remembered everything about these guys when I picked it up again last week. They each only get one color, because otherwise I'd never finish. I'm sure you'll be seeing them here again.
